Good Hair
For the first time in almost a year, I went to the salon and got a blow out for a special occasion. I’ve been wearing my hair in it’s naturally curly state and just wearing low maintenance styles. I arrived at the salon and braced for the pain that was about to ensue. Since I didn’t have a steady stylist at this salon, I was fair game to anyone. That is, if they wanted me. I watched for a good two minutes as stylists were fighting over who would have to do my hair. A nice man relented and two hours later, I left the salon with nice, bouncy curls and small burn on the back of my neck.
So I was pleasantly surprised to see the trailer for Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair”. This documentary is high on my list for movies coming out this year. I’m not really a big Chris Rock fan, but I’m more interested in what the documentary is going to cover: what women of color go through in order to achieve “good” hair.

What happened? Did the hairstylist burn your neck?? :O
I kind of dread getting my own hair blown out. If you don't know the stylist, they might give you an outdated style or just do the usual suburban housewife look– at least that's been the range of my worst experiences… Yipes to the burnt neck!!!
Christine–Yup, the hairstylist burned me on the back of my neck. He was trying to straighten my hair as close to the root as possible, but after that, I told him don't worry about it. He did give me a slight discount for the discomfort.
Dreamsequins–I agree with you on the dread. It's so hard to find a good stylist that is up with the latest looks and can give you a great blow out.
I burned myself the other day ironing my hair! Didn't even have anyone to be annoyed with!
That's horrible! I hope you didn't burn yourself too badly! I hate it when I burn my own self because like you said, you're annoyed, not at anyone in particular.
This documentary looks hilarious and really interesting. I too know the pain of a flat iron/curling iron burn, and yeah relaxer will eat through your skin. I never went back to that salon!
I don't blame you for not going back, at all. It's a shame that we pay so much and go through so much for hair.
