Bookends
One of my personal goals this year was to begin reading on a regular schedule again. I used to read a couple of books per week, but now I’m lucky if I can read half of a book in a week. I still go to Borders and buy new books frequently. Most of these books have been recommended to me by friends, book club choices or nosing around on Amazon.
I read right before bedtime and you can guess what happens next…after 10 minutes or so, I’m down for the count and I wake up the next morning with the book mysteriously resting on top of my face.
I am determined to change that this year. I’m no longer in a race with myself to see how fast I can finish a book. This is why I was happy when I learned about and eagerly signed up for the Slow Readers Forum, founded by Diana of our.city.lights. We are currently reading Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls (the author of The Glass House). After I finish Half Broke Horses, I will be reading The Glass Castle. I recommend joining The Slow Readers forum if you are looking for a book club and you are pretty busy and devote time to reading a new book every couple of weeks.
Do you enjoy reading? Do you have any recommendations?

I agree. It's so easy to get lost in another time/place in your books. I love it.
Good for you! I'd love to join Diana's club – what a great idea – but I have some books of my own I really need to finish before I take on any other titles. It's shameful, really!

I understand, Denise! And I hope you do join one day. Sounds like a great group and the deadlines aren't too taxing. Good luck on finishing your books!
I love books and reading, I'm a HUGE dork. I highly recommend anything by Neil Gaiman!

Thanks Michelle! American Gods is definitely high on my list of books I want to tackle this year. I've heard great things about his writings. Thanks for the recommendation. And no worries, I'm a dork, too!
I just bought Deluxe on the recommendation of a friend, but I have a HUGE queue of books that I have been putting off for over a year. I need to get back in the saddle again.

I definitely understand. It's hard to get back into the swing of things and you don't want to make reading feel like it's more of a chore than actually something enjoyable.
I made esactly the same new year's resolution! But since I'm also a slow reader, usually reading several books at the same time, my friend and I set up our own private book club where we talk about a book of our choice that we both read during one month.
Great idea with the forum! I should check it out!

That is a great idea for you and your friend! I hope you do check out the forum
