A Change of Heart

One thing I have always said about fashion is that you never say never. You may have your personal style resolutions down pat, but there can always be an item or two that pulls you in and you just must concede.

I religiously wear my ballet flats when there is no snow on the ground.  I wear them out like Amy Winehouse wears her light pink ballet slippers.  I only try to buy one new, durable pair once a year.

However, flats are not easy to wear during Chicago winters.  Walking in piles of snow that turns into dirty slush leaves precious flats open to ruin. Yes, boots are the best solution, but how about an alternative?

So I’ve opened myself up to a shoe that I swore I’d never wear: oxfords.

There really isn’t a good reason as to why I swore off wearing oxfords.  They just never really were my style, I suppose.  However, as my own personal style continues to slowly evolve, I’m becoming more open to wearing items that I’d otherwise never considered.  My biggest reason for opening up to oxfords is practicality.  I think they are the next best pair of shoes to wear when I want a break from my boots–and when I want to remain comfortable.

Here are a few pairs that I’ve had in mind:

I reallllly like those Boutique 9 oxfords. I feel like we have the same shoe-problem here with all the rain. Suede is definitely out, most of the year. *sigh*

I swear by oxfords…really. Possibly because I think flats just look strange on my feet. LOL.

    I LOVE the Boutique 9 ones…might get myself a pair…

I agree you really can say never to style. I may find myself in a pair of oxfords one day. With the right outfit I think I can totally pull it off.

Not to take away from your post, but I don't like the look of manly shoes on women. Don't get me wrong, I will hop in a pair of penny loafers or hush puppies in a minute, but when I look down, I want something that shows my femininity as well as sense of style. Maybe I could pull off the Boutique 9 oxfords with some gray slacks and an asymmetric collar turtle neck sweater…but I would still kinda weird in them. I can't deny that they are stylish…and look extra comfortable for feet with lotsa corns and bruises from torturous things we call stilettos (i.e. mine!)

Thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog, I really appreciate it :)

Also, I love those Sam Edelman ones, unfortunately they're suede right? So wouldn't work so well in the snow, bummer :( I have the same problem living in upstate NY, I end up going through a pair of Uggs every season – they're ugg-ly, but so warm!
