Planning for Fall

Fall is definitely my favorite season.  I’m anxiously waiting for the colorful leaves to drop, the crisp weather and  a chance to throw on the jacket.   I haven’t done much shopping (unemployed student here), so much of my shopping has been in my own closet.  However, I realized that I bought a lot items last fall that will easily carry over.  My one splurge?  That pair of boots above were a “hey, why not?” present to myself that arrived last week.   I’ve been stalking a pair of Rachel Comey boots for the longest time, but I found these on Topshop and decided to order them.  So there you have my black boots for the season.

Below are some of my other favorite picks for wearing this fall.  These are some other items that are not in my regular “rotation” as of yet, but I can’t wait to add them in.

Wide leg jeans that I bought in New York City this spring.   I didn’t have much of a chance to wear them this summer since Chicago was scorching hot and I still have to get them tailored.

Colored denim on weekends when I want to switch it up from my regular blue or black denim.  I bought these pants a couple of years ago and I love pulling them out in the fall for a pop of color.  I’m hoping to add a pair of cobalt blue jeans to the collection soon.

These two fall jackets will be in constant rotation: my lavender trench and my black moto jacket.   I bought the lavender trench earlier this spring, but I think it’ll translate just as well into the fall.

Colorful print dresses like the one above are a great way for me to mix it up instead of the black dresses that I usually wear on outings.

Any particular pieces that you are looking pull out of your closet this fall?

Yes, more boots. The hunt is on!

This is Vol. 2 of my freak out over boots that I’m having.  See, other than looking for snow boots, my other big obsession has been finding a pair of lace-up boots. I’ve been on the fence between finding a pair of  “granny boots” or a pair of combat boots. My main objective is that they lace-up.I posted a pair of boots on my Twitter to see what others thought of the particular pair, and a honest and caring friend told me to my face that they looked “wrestler chic” (thank you!), so we are back to square one.  Here are a few choices for boots that I’m thinking of:

Loving these LD Tuttle boots from Oak NYC. Not loving? The price tag at $889 is too rich for my blood right about now.

I also like these Jeffrey Campbell “Acme” boots, but I’m really not 100% sure about them:

And I REALLY like these boots from Modcloth. However, they wouldn’t work out in terms of practicality.

Now, can I show you the boots I found and thought were winners and   I mean, they pretty much hit the mark on everything I was looking for and the price is right?  They are here:

However, I had concerns about buying these from Ebay  and the ever fabulous and kick ass Wendy Brandes was nice enough to look the shoes and agreed that I should look for some other options for something quite similar to this shoe since I’m really in love with them. I’m looking for alternatives that will be kind to my pockets (I’m not supposed to be shopping for myself unless it’s for winter boots!) and have the same aesthetic as the boots above.

So I am asking you, dear reader:  do you know of a similar shoe? Think I should say “Eff it” and go with one of the above options?

And yes, I know, I still have got to do better ;)

Hello Fall

Not sure how many times I’ve typed this, but I’m sure you know by now that fall is my favorite season. There are always subtle hints that fall weather is creeping in and summer is slowly fading away. The cooler weather, being forced to turn on the heat at night or piling blankets on before bed, the cider offerings turning up on the menu at your favorite coffee shop.

For me, one of my first signs that fall is truly here is when I begin to wear boots on a daily basis. Although I’ve tried, I cannot wear boots year round and I pretty much relegate myself to flats in the summer.  Once autumn rolls around, I pretty much only wear boots. I realized  didn’t have a pair of everyday and comfortable flat boots to wear (I’ll talk about this later), but I found a pair on a whim at Aldo and on sale a few days ago.

Can  you guess what the highlight of my Monday was?

Breaking in my new boots, of course!

What is your favorite thing about fall?

Cheap Chic: Boots and Booties

So I’ve been on a massive hunt for the perfect pair of booties in the last couple of weeks. The thing is, I don’t want to spend a ton of money on them, because I already have a pair of boots that I’m pretty much in love with forever. In my search, I’ve found a few pairs of booties and boots that are reasonably priced and cute at Lulus.com. I’d never been to the site before, but they had some pretty nice styles for a reasonable price. Here are some of my choices.
