Rodarte

My Thoughts: Rodarte for Target

It’s here. The designer collaboration that we’ve all been waiting for, right? Rodarte for Target is now in stores!

After having a strange dream that I saw the Rodarte for Target collection in store and the prices were astronomically high (for instance, I dreamed that I picked up a dress for $3,499.00), I had to shake it off. I lumbered out of my bed and drove over to my local Target to check out the collection.  I’d previously written about the Rodarte for Target collab before, so I was very anxious to touch and feel the clothing for myself.  What did I think?

Can I be honest?  I mean, really honest?

I was surprised at the quality of the clothes.  Yes, I know, what was I thinking, right? The prices are low and it is Target, but I was really shocked.  Some of the items, such as the leopard print dress, didn’t look or feel at all like I’d thought on the pictures. Even with the prices (at my local Target) ranging from about $14.99-$44.99, I still couldn’t imagine paying that for a few of the pieces.

While  browsing, I was able to snap a few pictures on my Iphone (sorry if the quality is not stellar):

I did end up buying the black lace cardigan, because for me, I’d had my eye on it since the pictures of the collection were announced and after seeing it, I still really wanted it.  I’m still mulling over the tulle skirt, but I don’t think I’ll be greatly upset if it sells out before I make up my mind.

Have you checked out the Rodarte for Target line? What are your thoughts?

Deliberating: Rodarte for Target

Finally, some preview images from the Rodarte for Target collaboration have shown up online.  After much anticipation (on my end, at least), the line which launches in Target on December 20th looks to be a mixture of textures and prints. I see sequins, lace, leopard print and bows.  Overall, I’m a little underwhelmed by the collection, but that’s how I’ve been feeling about many of the designer collaborations that have been coming out lately. I know many times that the quality of materials is not the same because they are lower-priced and the designers are appealing to a larger base. I had really high hopes for Rodarte, because I enjoy their runway collections so much and I still hope to check out the line when it arrives in my local Target store (if it arrives, rather). I still think Rodarte did remain quite true to their aesthetic, and some of the pieces are quite creative. Plus, if there are 55 pieces, then maybe I’m casting my opinion too soon.  My one question is: where are the pants?

Rodarte: Spring 2010

I’ve been quite mum about NYFW if only because I’ve been reading the great commentary from other fashion bloggers who have been in NY giving their first-hand point of view, so I’ve really only been a spectator. However, the Mulleavy sisters showed their collection for Rodarte and it was the only collection I felt compelled to comment on before New York Fashion Week ended.

I will admit, at first I was a bit unsure from viewing the backstage preview pictures.  Once the show was over and the pictures started pouring in, I was able to piece together what the Mulleavy sisters were aiming for.  The shredded and burned clothing portrayed flashes of futurism and primal nature at the same time, while keeping the essence of Rodarte.  The dark and dramatic nature of the clothing was something I’d probably associate with the F/W set, but the sisters made it work and turned in a gothic, almost haunting, memorable collection.

The shoes by Nicolas Kirkwood were classic Kirkwood and the tribal tattoos were fitting for the runway show.  As far as how wearable the collection is,  I was intrigued by more than a few of the pieces and how easily wearable they would be off the runway.  For me, the only Rodarte pieces that I’d be able to afford and wear are those from their collaboration with Target, which I’m anxious and skeptical about overall, but I’ll hold my breath for this one.  Here are a few more photos from the S/S 2010 show:
