Rodarte for Target is now in stores!

After having a strange dream that I saw the Rodarte for Target collection in store and the prices were astronomically high (for instance, I dreamed that I picked up a dress for $3,499.00), I had to shake it off.  I lumbered out of my bed and drove over to my local Target to check out the collection.  I’d previously written about the Rodarte for Target collab before, so I was very anxious to touch and feel the clothing for myself.   What did I think?

Can I be honest?  I mean, really honest?

I was surprised at the quality of the clothes.  Yes, I know, what was I thinking, right? The prices are low and it is Target, but I was really shocked.  Some of the items, such as the leopard print dress, didn’t look or feel at all like I’d thought on the pictures.  Even with the prices (at my local Target) ranging from about $14.99-$44.99, I still couldn’t imagine paying that for a few of the pieces.

I did end up buying the black lace cardigan, because for me, I’d had my eye on it since the pictures of the collection were announced and after seeing it, I still really wanted it.  I’m still mulling over the tulle skirt, but I don’t think I’ll be greatly upset if it sells out before I make up my mind.

I know many times that the quality of materials is not the same because they are lower-priced and the designers are appealing to a larger base. I had really high hopes for Rodarte, because I enjoy their runway collections so much and I still hope to check out the line when it arrives in my local Target store (if it arrives, rather).   I still think Rodarte did remain quite true to their aesthetic, and some of the pieces are quite creative. Plus, if there are 55 pieces, then maybe I’m casting my opinion too soon.   My one question is: where are the pants?

So it’s a little over a month until March 5th, the day that McQueen arrives in Target stores. As noted in a previous post, Alexander McQueen is probably one of my favorite designers of his generation.  So of course, I was excited (and I still somewhat am) about his clothing line landing in my local Target store.   And Ms. Jennifer Hudson wearing an Alexander McQueen military-style jacket while singing the National Anthem made me even more anxious.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not crazy about all of the looks or even most of the looks.  Mainly because it looks like it is geared towards a younger and spunkier demographic than myself, where I felt the Thakoon for Target line had a broader appeal.  However, this is Lee McQueen and frankly, I doubt he gives a damn.   I have already picked out some pieces that I’m looking foreward to checking out when it arrives in stores.  I’m not expecting it to be comprable to his RTW or even his McQ line, but I really want to give it a chance.
