Do you ever feel like you’ve “lost your way” and need a bit of inspiration? Do you find yourself second-guessing your style or in a rut and instead throw on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt because it’s easier than working on your own personal style?

Is it just me?

I’m not very referential in terms of magazine editorials. I don’t tear out pages, but instead save random pictures in a folder if I feel that an image is inspiring–but they are rarely editorial images. However, I’ve kept the September 2003 issue of Vogue magazine with me since it first hit the stands. It went away with me to each of my college dorms, back home for a brief period and my first two apartments. All because a portion of an editorial featuring Nicole Kidman has always been my source of inspiration.

I honestly thumb through this issue at least once a month. It’s still as fresh to me now as it was back in ’03, when I was just entering college. When I go shopping, flashes of these pages appear in my mind as a reference and although it doesn’t dictate my style, it’s a wonderful source of inspiration.

Are there any images that inspire you? Any specific editorials that you continue to reference? Pictures?

Photo from Gawker

So it seems the cover of the Vogue May issue traditionally features models has been revealed. Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Maria Jagodzinska. Isabeli Fontana, Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmerman, Caroline Trentini, and Natasha Poly are the chosen ones to grace the cover. To tell the truth, I’m not surprised by the choices.

Well, I actually thought maybe Sessilee Lopez might sneak in. Also, I thought Chanel Iman might be included since she has been something of an “It” model for a couple of years now, but she is in the issue in an editorial with her boyfriend:

Photo from The Fashion Spot

However, I am glad that Jourdan Dunn, a rising newcomer, did have a spot on the cover. With the influx of new models, I never really keep up and I do care more about the clothes than the models, in general. However, Jourdan Dunn is the one model that I always look for in shows and editorials because the girl always works it. I believe she has a long and successful career ahead of her. Don’t believe me? Check out this vid:

I heard the rumors about Michelle Obama appearing on the cover of Vogue magazine, but I didn’t pay much attention to them.  As stated in my previous post, I haven’t really read an entire issue of American Vogue magazine in ages, and I’ve found other alternatives and I’ve gotten fashion fixes in places such as Style.com, various forums and blogs.

However, I was pleasantly surprised at michelle Obama’s cover for this March. I didn’t think Jennifer Hudson’s Vogue cover was done well at all, and she was the last woman of color to grace the cover of the magazine in March 2007. The magenta Jason Wu (yes, the same designer of her Inagural gown) dress compliments her skin tone nicely and her expression is soft and she looks relaxed.

Needless to say, I will be picking up this issue as I’m excited to see what’s in store.  Not saying that I’m going back with Vogue all the way, but we might be able to take baby steps. Small baby steps.

Oh yes, Ms. Hathaway. Hello, I don’t believe I’ve seen you on the cover of a US Vogue yet. However, I have seen 18 of your other acting counterparts for the better part of a decade now. Every now and then I may see a model, but I don’t count on it.

I’ve been reading Vogue magazine for over a decade now and much hasn’t changed between now and then. It’s mainly the reason why I haven’t clamored to buy it in recent years. I saw this article on Jezebel today on why they hoped the rumor that Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld would replace Anna Wintour was true. And I agreed with all of the points. Even if Roitfeld wasn’t the replacement, some new blood at American Vogue would be nice. However, I’m sure it won’t be happening anytime soon.

So I’ll continue looking at other fashion mags, including Elle, which has stepped it up in terms of content and editorials (they are still just as guilty of the celeb-driven covers) and Vogue Paris, when they won me over with the Sofia Coppola issue in 2004.

Perhaps one day, American Vogue will win me back and I’ll re-discover the eagerness from month to month. Or maybe it was just a growing phase and I’ve moved on to better.
